Edinburgh : Daytrips
Equipped with a good map, you can escape the hustle and bustle of the city and see the major attractions of the countryside with a daytrip from Edinburgh. Most highlights are no more than an hour's drive from Edinburgh. The main points of interest are Hopetoun House of Robert Adam and the ruins of Linlithgow Palace, the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots.
One of the best daytrips from Edinburgh is to Deep Sea World. From the centre of Edinburgh, it is about 19kms (12 miles) west over the Forth Road Bridge. By train, go to either Waverley or Haymarket station in Edinburgh and then take any train stopping at North Queensferry. From here, follow the signs to Deep Sea World, a 10-minute walk away.
One of the most popular daytrips from Edinburgh is to the medieval town of Dunfermline, north of Edinburgh. Dunfermline is home to an infamous abbey and palace as well as the Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum. |
